Illinois River Valley Orienteering Club

Event Report by Mike Contratto

As you could expect with Hana's involvement plus the weather we had been having, the Farmdale event was a lot of fun and mud.  Hana provided a Bike-O for the Orange course, however Steve Antoncci gave the bikers a run for their money - on foot!  However, the course provided lots of opportunity to wash off the mud from the very wet trails in the numerous stream crossings. Fredrik once AGAIN beat Scott, however Fredrik waited until the last minute to head out and many of the routes were well defined by the time he got there.;-)

The Yellow course was not as wet as the bike-o but still had lots of opportunity for mud and even a little play time in the creek if you did not have good route planning.  The JROTC cadets from Pekin smoked the Yellow course with almost 20 minutes on the 2nd place team.  Of course, Rob Vail was carrying Paxton (1) on his back and Kenrick (8) and Anthoney (6) have not had the advantage of orienteering training like the cadets.  Also, the cadets need to watch out for the youthful team of Marvin, Arlene and Courage Doyle (Mid 50's, except Courage is in dog years).  The Boast team was very competitive in the ‘> 6 member and 3 generation’ team category!

The white course was a little short but everyone had fun and did not get too muddy. Aaron Albright did his first orienteering meet in a very impressive time.  However, he needs to watch out for Cal Urycki (13).

Just a gentle reminder to everyone.  You must get a start time before you go out on the course and you must be back at the finish by 2 PM.  We need a start time to know who is out in the woods so we send out a search time IF you do not come back.  The 2 PM return time means that we will not be sending a search team for you.  The need for a firm deadline is so we do not wait too long to send help in the case of a emergency.

No matter the weather, our events are on.
