National Orienteering Day Was Fantastic Weather & Participation Success - It looks like National Orienteering Day attracted about 153 participants plus more than 9 non-competing helpers to keep things rolling smoothly. Many thanks for all of the volunteers for their efforts; without them, we wouldn’t have such a great orienteering club locally.
Weather was unseasonably warm with 80+ beautiful degrees of warmth. What an incredible day for orienteering (but aren’t they all?)!!! The event featured a String-O course, a White course (2.1 km distance and 95 meters of climb), a Yellow Course (3.4 km and 131 meters of climb), and an Orange course (4.8 km and 300 meters of climb).
Something of interest is where orienteers come from. For this event, 43% of registrations were from Peoria, 15% each from Dunlap & Pekin, 4% each from PeoriaHeights, Metamora, & Putnam, with the balance from Washington, Groveland, Cropsey, Forrest, Fairbury, Crystal Lake, Red Falls & Bradford in Illinois and Bettendorf, IA.
