What's New

This week is O-Fest 2008 – (and we could use some more volunteers to help out)

  • Wednesday November 12 – 6:00 p.m. Orienteering Clue Clinic at Bushwhacker.  The information presented will be very beneficial at the Saturday Clue-O and other events throughout the year.  Mike Contratto will provide opportunity to improve you understanding of the clue sheet and symbols.
  • Friday Night-O November 14 – Featuring 2 Orienteering courses at Sommer Park.  PLEASE NOTE:  YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO GET INTO THE PARK THROUGH THE NORMAL ENTRANCE.  Enter through the subdivision just north of Sommer Park; it is called Sommer Place.  Take a road also called Sommer Place all the way to Basket Oak Drive, at the back of the subdivision.  Turn left and just go straight ahead to the neighborhood park and pavilion.  We will have our O-signs out to help you find the right place.  Check in opens at 5 pm and closes at 6:30 pm.  There will be a 2 hour time limit on the courses.  The longer course will be around 3.5 miles and the shorter course will be approximately 2.5 miles. Meet fees are $6 per map plus $1 per person.
  • Saturday O-Meet November 15 – inside Sommer Park and accessed through the main park entrance off of Koerner Road.  We will have three courses: White (1.1 miles), Yellow (2.2 miles) and a Clue/Score-O (Orange course level challenge/distance).  Clue-O participants will be given a map with 19 control markers and a clue sheet with only clue symbols for 14 markers (no control numbers or written clue descriptions).  You will choose and locate the 14 correct controls based on the clues. Just in case that isn’t challenging enough, there will also be some false controls and other “twists” along the way.  You should be an experienced orienteer and know your clue symbols by heart to do the Clue-O.  The White & Yellow courses will be traditional courses for beginner and intermediate orienteers with regular clue sheets and descriptions.  Registration will run from 10 am until noon; all courses close at 2 pm. The Start/Finish area for Saturday courses is inside Sommer Park.  Meet fees are $6 per map plus $1 per person.
